Big Day!

Monday 9 June 2008

Today is the big day.  I am counting down the minutes until the WWDC Keynote.  I plan on following it at a number of places.  Here are some places that you can follow the keynote:

Gizmodo: Apple WWDC Liveblog Coverage

Engadget: Steve Jobs keynote live from WWDC 2008

MacNN: Live from Apple’s WWDC in San Francisco

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): WWDC coverage schedule for today

I can’t wait to see what happens.

You can get a free Apple iPhone (or iPod Touch), just like I did. The steps are extremely easy:
  1. Fill out a short form with your information.
  2. Complete a simple exclusive offer or two.
  3. Have a few friends do the same.
  4. Click here (iPhone) or here (iPod Touch) to get started.

iPhone Denial-of-Service Bug

Thursday 7 February 2008

iPodNN is reporting (iPhone denial-of-service bug surfaces) that an iPhone Denial-of-Service Bug has been uncovered. According to SecurityFocus, this issue exists in both the 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 firmware. There is no mention on whether this affects the iPod Touch.

Some may see this issue as a blessing. It may mean that a site like JailBreakMe can work on the 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 firmware.

Apple will most likely fix this issue in their next firmware update. We can only wait to see.

Over 25% of iPhones unlocked

Tuesday 29 January 2008

A new article (Analysis: Over 25% of iPhones unlocked) on MacNN states that over 25% of all the iPhones in the United States are used on networks other than AT&Ts network. This means that over a quarter of all iPhones were either unlocked or abandoned (when bricked). This is very interesting.

Apple has never been very forthcoming with the number of unlocked iPhones, but Reuters came up with this analysis by looking at the discrepancies between Apple’s numbers and AT&T’s numbers.

This news doesn’t really apply to getting a free iPhone, but it is interesting news. If you don’t want to switch to AT&T and want to unlock your (free) iPhone, just know that you are not alone. Also, according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) you are technically allowed to unlock your iPhone.

The Missing Sync for iPhone

Wednesday 2 January 2008

The Missing Sync for iPhone (by mark/space) has been released. It will cost you $39.95, but will help you migrate from an old (supported) device (like Blackberry, Palm OS, or Windows Mobile) to your new iPhone. It will also store a copy of all of your call logs and SMS text messages (to beat the 1,000 message limit on the iPhone). The Missing Sync will also transfer notes from your iPhone for you, and you can organize them.

This looks like a great application for users who need to transfer those thousands of contacts, calendar items, photos etc from their existing smartphone to their new iPhone. If you are one of these users, I suggest checking The Missing Sync out.

‘iPhone’ Fastest Rising Search Result on Google

Friday 14 December 2007

‘iPhone’ was the fastest rising search word on Google this year. This is according to Google Zeitgeist (2007). ‘iPhone’ ranked higher in both the U.S. and internationally. It beat out terms like: ‘webkins’, ‘tmz’, ‘club penguin’, ‘dailymotion’, etc…

Not only is ‘iPhone’ the fastest rising search term, it is also number six in the Google News Most Popular Searches.

This just shows that since the iPhone’s announcement (earlier this January), its popularity has skyrocketed.
