PC World has named the iPhone as one of The Biggest Technology Disappointments of 2007. It reached number 5 on the list still behind Yahoo, Facebook Beacon, the High-Def Format War, and Microsoft Windows Vista.
The editors there believe that the iPhone itself is a nifty piece of hardware, their complaint is more with AT&T’s broadband service and the (too soon) $200 price drop. They also point out the disappointment (and anger) from some users who hacked their iPhone only to have it bricked by a firmware update.
These three points from the editors are extremely valid points. I believe that the device (hardware) still sits that the top of my favorite items this decade (not only this year). I think a purchase of the iPhone (or get one free!) is still very much worth it.

‘iPhone’ was the fastest rising search word on Google this year. This is according to Google Zeitgeist (2007). ‘iPhone’ ranked higher in both the U.S. and internationally. It beat out terms like: ‘webkins’, ‘tmz’, ‘club penguin’, ‘dailymotion’, etc…
Not only is ‘iPhone’ the fastest rising search term, it is also number six in the Google News Most Popular Searches.
This just shows that since the iPhone’s announcement (earlier this January), its popularity has skyrocketed.

Is there a major update coming to an iPhone near you?
According to MacNN, there is. They are suggesting that the update will be available as early as Saturday and will include some very heavily requested user features. Some of these features may include disk mode (to store items on your iPhone, like you can on an iPod) and a voice recorder (to take memos or record lectures). This update (like previous updates) will probably break any jailbreaking attempts (for a time).
There is no word on whether this update will be given to the iPod Touch. This is still an unconfirmed development. But you should stay tuned to see what happens.

Google has redesigned their homepage for the iPhone/iPod Touch. They had mobile (iPhone) versions of Gmail, Google Docs, and others, but the Google homepage was still the same old thing. Now, they redirect iPhone users to a special page which is designed specifically for the iPhone.
This should make using your favorite search engine even easier. Enjoy!
