My Free iPhone / iPod Touch

I found a great little repository of iPhone/iPod Touch Wallpapers. The collection is on Flickr, so it’s available to everyone and the collection already has over 1200 wallpapers. And you can find everything from your favorite superhero, or the odd, or video game characters, or your favorite actor or actress.

The images here are perfectly formatted to fit on your iPhone or iPod Touch screen. No resizing or reformatting necessary. To set the wallpaper, follow these instructions from the iPod Touch feature guide (page 34):

1. Choose any photo.
2. Drag to pan, or pinch to zoom in or out, until the photo looks the way you want.
3. Tap the photo to display the controls, then tap and tap Set Wallpaper.

I decided a little while ago to attempt to get a free iPod Touch (16 GB) to go along with my iPhone. Well, it arrived yesterday. As you can see from the image above, I have already jailbroken the iPod (since jailbreaking won’t brick it). The other image shows this site on the iPod Touch (which formats automatically for the iPhone/iPod Touch).

Apple released the first Apple iPod Touch spot on TV last night.

According to the New York Times (Student’s Ad Gets a Remake, and Makes the Big Time), this ad was originally created by a student (Nick Haley) and posted to YouTube.com (original version of the video). Nick was invited to help revise the advertisment and release it as an official Apple Ad.

The video is very well done and creative. I love how it moves with the music. I like this much better than the recent iPhone advertisements.

Google has just announced that they will now provide Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) service to their GMail client. They were even nice enough to add a nice tutorial (including a video) on how to set this up on your iPhone.

IMAP access will allow you to manipulate your email messages on your iPhone like you were manipulating them on the server (or through Gmail.com). If you delete a message on your iPhone, it will be deleted from your GMail account. This is different than Post Office Protocol (POP) access which will copy the emails to your local machine to be manipulated independently.

So, if you have your iPhone and are a fan of IMAP, you can now access your GMail account through IMAP. Happy Emailing!

Yesterday was the Apple iPod 6th birthday.

It started out as a Mac-only mp3 player which only connected through Firewire. Now, the iPod is a symbol of pop culture and has different connectivity methods (WiFi, USB, but no longer Firewire), and even runs with Windows (in addition to Mac). It’s even used in a phone now (the iPhone). The first iPod started with 5 GBs of space, the largest iPod Classic now comes in at 160 GBs.
